The town of Ubud is located on the island of Bali in the Indian Ocean. It has approximately 30,000 residents and lies northeast of Denpasar, the largest city on the island.
Ubud used to be an important source of medicinal plants and herbs for the islanders, which is why it was given the name ubad (Balinese: medicine). Today the city is marketed as the cultural and artistic centre of the Indonesian island.
