Estonia is a country in the north of Europe. With 1.3 million inhabitants, the Baltic republic is one of the smaller states in the EU. Estonia is located in the Gulf of Finland, shares a border with Russia and Latvia and a maritime border with Finland.
The northern territory has been under the control of various powers over the years, such as Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Poland and Russia. The present Republic of Estonia has existed since the 1990s. Much has changed in Estonia since then. The IT sector is today one of the drivers of the economy. The Baltic country held the first state elections via the Internet in 2005 and was the first country to offer a e-residency in 2014.
Traditional Estonian cuisine is based mainly on meat, potatoes and fish. It is influenced, among other things, by the eating cultures of its neighbors and is, because of the pronounced seasons, very seasonal. Love for bread is strongly rooted in culture.
