The most impressive landmark of the Taiwanese capital clearly dominates the other buildings in the area. Taipei 101 extends over 101 floors distributed at a height of 509,2 meters.
Construction of the building began in 1999 in the Xinyi District. It was opened in 2004, setting the world record as the tallest building.
Taipei 101 is more than 50 meters taller than the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, which previously occupied the title. After 6 years Taipei had to give the title to the 828 meter high Burj Kalifa in Dubai.
The 101 floors are mainly used for offices. A shopping mall is located on the lower floors. On the upper floors there is an indoor observation deck (88th and 89th floor) and an outdoor observation deck (91st floor), which offers a wide view over the city. The most impressive building of the skyline can unfortunately not be seen from the viewing platform, Taipei 101.
You can reach the Observatory Deck on the 89th floor from the fifth floor within 37 seconds by elevator. In 2016, Taipei 101 had to hand over the record for the fastest elevator in the world to the Shanghai Tower. It transports its passengers with an speed up to 73.8 km/h, 13.2 km/h faster than the elevators in Taipei 101.
The Taipei World Trade Center is located in the immediate proximity of Taipei 101. A gigantic building complex with exhibition halls, congress centre and a luxury hotel.
