Lille has two major railway stations, Gare de Lille Flandres and Gare de Lille Europe. Gare de Lille was opened in 1842 and renamed in 1993 when the Lille Europe train station opened.

Lille Europe is primarily used by high-speed train services (Eurostar, TGV, Thalys) with final destinations in United Kingdom, Belgium and the north of France.
Lille Flanders is mostly used as a gateway to regional destinations. The exterior façade of the train station was originally the one of the Gare de Nord in Paris. It was removed at the end of the 19th century in Paris and reassembled at the station building of the northern French city.
