Bruges

Bruges is a Flemish city in the northwest of Belgium. Because of the old town centre with its canals, the city also bears the nickname Venice of the North.

Whether the medieval town is really comparable with the Italian city is a matter of opinion. The old town, which is one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe, is beautiful anyway. In 2000, the Historical Centre was therefore recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
