Bologna is the capital of the Italian region Emilia-Romagna. It is located in Northern Italy and the largest city in the region. Bologna was 2000 the European capital of culture and is the home of the well-known Bolognese sauce.

Bologna is home to many students and has the oldest university in the Western world. The origins of the institution go back to the year 1088. The University of Al Quaraouiyine in Fez, Morocco is the oldest one. The educational institution was established 859 and is still in operation 1159 years later.

Because many students make up the population of Bologna, you can clearly see when they are on holiday and the city seems empty.
