Bangkok is a huge city with a population over 8 million people. With so many people, traffic can get very hectic at times. Bangkok has one of the highest rates of motorbike usage in the world – 57% of people use them on a daily basis to get around the city.
The city also has an extensive public transportation network which includes buses, taxis, trains, skytrains (BTS), elevated rail (MRT) and boats. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has made it a priority to improve traffic congestion in the metropolitan area by encouraging more people to use public transportation such as buses or trains rather than motorbikes or cars during rush hour.
