When you travel to a foreign country, you spend a lot of time exploring the place and don’t shy away from breaking new ground. In everyday life at home, it’s a different story; you’re in the same places and move along recurring paths. Even if you live in the same city for years, you probably haven’t seen all the places in the city. Why is that? So I decided to just go everywhere in my city Mössingen.
To make it a little more interesting, I combined this with a photo project. Take a few pictures in every street of Mössingen. Sounds actually quite simple and should be no problem. The big advantage is that Mössingen is a small town and so the number of streets is manageable. It was not easy to find a list with all street names, but in the end I found a suitable list with 138 entries. This does not include the streets of the associated districts, which I excluded for this project. For comparison, the number of streets in London is about 60,000.
So now I had the list of street names. How should I now proceed most effectively? Since the routes were quite short, it was out of the question to do everything on foot. To have a better overview and to be able to plan my route better, I wrote a simple app for the project. In the app, all roads are marked on a map. Once a road is done, it is checked off and disappears on the map. Without the app, an overview would have been very difficult.
So off we go with the camera in hand. As you can partly see from the pictures, they were not taken on one day, but on several days over a longer period at different times of the day. The result is a total of 566 pictures, which you can see here. Whether it gives an accurate picture of Mössingen, I personally want to leave open. In any case, it was never the goal but to visit every place in my city and this self-imposed goal I have hereby also achieved.
