Kiev or Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine. The metropolis is centrally located in the north of the Eastern European state on the banks of the Dnieper River.
Kiev was officially founded in 482 A.D., making it one of the oldest cities in Eastern Europe. Today’s Kiev is a mix of old and new. Not to be missed are the many magnificent historical churches of the city.
People’s Friendship Arch
The People’s Friendship Arch was inaugurated in 1982 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the USSR and the celebration of the 1.500th anniversary of the Kiev city. The monument consists of a high arch of titanium and two statues. One is a bronze statue depicting two Russian and Ukrainian workers who hold up the Soviet Order of Friendship of Peoples.
