Bosnia and Herzegovina is a triangular shaped country in the southeast of Europe. It is located on the Balkan Peninsula and and borders Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro. A twenty kilometer coastline in the south of the country is the only connection to the Adriatic Sea.
The northern region of Bosnia accounts for over 80 percent of the country and is also home to the capital Sarajevo. In the south is the region of Herzegovina, the largest city of this part of the country is Mostar.
The cuisine of Bosnia and Herzegovina is influenced by the West and East and shares similarities with former Yugosla and other Balkan cuisines. The top national dish of the country is surely Ćevapi. Grilled minced meat, which is usually served with flatbread and chopped onions.
Also worth mentioning is the Bosnian coffee culture, “Bosnian coffee” (Bosnian: bosanska kahva). It is similar to Turkish, but differs in the way the coffee is prepared. The long-necked coffee pot, džezva, is essential for this.
The country’s most common last names are Hodžić (Bosniaks) and Kovačević (Serbs).
