Ximending is a shopping and entertainment district in the Wanhua District of Taipei. Over 3 million shoppers visit Ximending every month and stroll through the largest pedestrian area in Taiwan.
Under Japanese rule, Ximeding developed into a well-known theater street in the 1930s. One historic theatre is the Red House Theatre. It was first built as a market building and later converted into a theatre.
Ximending is sometimes referred to as Harajuku the Taiwanese. Harajuku is a district in Shibuya, Tokyo and is considered the center of Japanese youth culture and fashion.
