The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven emirates located on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula in western Asia. Bordering Oman and Saudi Arabia, the UAE represents a unique blend of modernity and tradition.
One of the seven emirates, Dubai is known for its flamboyant architecture and status as a global financial and tourism hub. The city is home to some of the tallest buildings in the world, including the Burj Khalifa, the tallest man-made structure in the world.

A UAE staple is machboos, a fragrant rice dish cooked with spices, onions, tomatoes and chicken or lamb. Another popular dish is shawarma, a Middle Eastern sandwich of marinated meat, vegetables, and gravy, wrapped in a flatbread.
The names of the Emiratis often reflect the country’s Bedouin heritage. Common surnames include Al-Maktoum, Al-Nahyan, and Al-Hosani associated with Bedouin tribes and clans.
